William H. Richards, Jr

William H. Richards, Jr, 69, loving companion of Mary Ellen Durfee, with whom he shared over forty-three years of happiness, died peacefully Monday morning, February 5, 2018, at Beverly Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Beverly on July 14, 1948, he was the son of the late William H. and Beatrice (Grant) Richards.  Bill was a Vietnam Army veteran, a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Blackhorse Regiment.  After his service, he worked for many years as a security guard for Polaroid Company in Waltham. Bill will be remembered for his love of music, for which he leaves behind quite a collection. He was an avid reader on anything and everything related to musicians and their art.  Bill was known for his quick wit and his love of Mary Ellen.

In addition to Mary Ellen, he is survived by his siblings, Karen Dennis and her husband, Larry, of Nottingham, NH, John R. Richards and his wife, Mabeth, of Beverly, and Carol Morris of Peabody; Mary Ellenís sister, Margaret Durfee and her companion Ray Nichols of Lynn, MA as well as several nieces. Bill is also remembered by another sibling who wishes him peace and a safe journey.  He is predeceased by his nephew Brian D. Richards.

His funeral service with Military Honors will be held 11 am Friday, February 23, 2018 graveside in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
