William E. Meader, 84, longtime of Story Street, Essex, died
Wednesday May 28, 2008 in the Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport,
following his brief illness.
He
was born in Boston on January 25, 1924, the only child of the late
Everett L. and Mable (Doucette) Meader. Raised and schooled in
Essex, as a young man he worked with his father in the last days of
shipbuilding in Essex. Drafted in the final years of World War II,
he served two years in the Army. For more than forty years he was
employed as a poultryman at Hardy’s Hatchery in Essex, and for
twenty years he was employed at the Village Restaurant, Essex, from
which he retired in 2006. During more than twenty-five of these
years he concurrently served as a call fireman with the Essex Fire
Department.
Mr.
Meader was an avid waterfowl hunter. He also enjoyed watching
professional sports and stamp and coin collecting.
He
was a life member of the former Essex AMVETS post and a fifty year
plus member of the American Legion Post #231.
In
addition to his wife of thirty-nine years he is survived by a son,
William E. Meader, Jr. and his wife Denise of Rowley; a stepson,
John Parsons of Ipswich; a stepdaughter, Deborah Aiello and her
husband Thomas of Gloucester; a granddaughter, Kelsie Meader of
Rowley and four step grandchildren, Corey Reeves of Pittsburg, MA
and Thomas, Carylanne and Kristen Aiello of all of Gloucester. He
was the stepfather of the late Gina Reeves formerly of Hamilton.
His
funeral service will be held Tuesday June 3 at 11 am in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich followed by
interment in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends
are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Monday 4 to 8 pm.
