William M. Lundy

William M. Lundy, 70, long time resident of Pond Street, Essex and husband of Elizabeth “ Betty” L. (Goody) Lundy, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in the Beverly Hospital following his long illness.

Born in Oswego, NY September 21, 1942 son of the late George and Ruth F. (Matz) Lundy, he was raised and attended public schools in both Oswego and Gloucester.

For four years he proudly served with the U.S. Marines. His tour of duty included stationing at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the missile crisis and Viet Nam Era duties stateside. Following his discharge and return to Gloucester he soon trained and became employed as a plumber. Married in 1969, the Lundys made their home and raised their family on Pond Street. For forty-six years he was employed as a union plumber, retiring in 2002.

Mr. Lundy enjoyed boating and fishing the local waters with his family and in retirement enjoyed winters with his wife at their Bradenton, FL home.

Mr. Lundy  served as President of Plumber’s and Pipefitter’s Local #138, served as a member of the Essex Board of Health,  was a member of Ipswich VFW #1093, and for thirteen years served with  the Essex Call Fire Department where he also served as an EMT.

In addition to his wife of forty-three years he is survived by two daughters, Kimberly A. Lundy of Essex and Kathy E. Lundy of Gloucester; two brothers, George Lundy of Oswego, and Richard Lundy of Gloucester; a sister, Betty Lou Allen of Oswego, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, the late Alan Lundy formerly of Gloucester and a sister, Helen Lundy formerly of CA.

His funeral Services will be held  Friday May 10, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment with Military Honors in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Thursday 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Essex Fire Company, 24 Martin Street, Essex, MA 01929,  or to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Avenue, #2, Norwood, MA 02062, or to a charity of one’s choice.
