G. Walter Johnson

G. Walter Johnson, 95, of Old Country Road, Wenham and husband of Sara (Kelley) Johnson, died Friday, May 20, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following his short illness.
Born in Lexington February 23, 1916 son of the late Anders R. and Elvira V. (Lovgren) Johnson, he was raised in Newton, a 1934 graduate of public schools and the Bentley School of Accounting. During WWII he enlisted with the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific and Atlantic
as a Chief Yeoman, P.A.
Married in 1946 the Johnsons made their home in Trumball Ct. They later resided in Wilbraham, MA and wintered in Hillsboro, FL. Mr. Johnson was the owner and operator of Northeast Fuel Corp., from which he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield, the First Church in Wenham, Norembega Masonic Lodge AF&AM of Newtonville and the Lafayette Consistory of Bridgeport, CT.
In addition to his wife of sixty-five years he is survived by two sons, Eric K. Johnson of Dorchester and Torrey R. Johnson of Gloucester; a daughter, Cynthia L. Garland of Ipswich; five grandchildren, Abigail T. Garland of Boston, Rebecca R. Whitley and her husband Steven of Concord, NH, George W. Johnson, III and his wife Kendall of West Hartford CT, Jennifer L. Johnson of Chicago IL, Andres F. Johnson of Gloucester; a sister Virginia M. Hockele of Denver, CO and several nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Robert W. Johnson formerly of Cambridge and the late Helen E. Nelson formerly of Springfield .
A Memorial Service will be held 2 pm Tuesday, May 24 in the First Congregational Church in Hamilton, 624 Bay Road, Hamilton.  Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923, and or the First Congregational Church in Hamilton, PO Box 123, Hamilton , MA 01936.
