Virginia A. (Lane) Hopkins Stansfield
Virginia Alice Lane Hopkins Stansfield, 95, of Rockport, died July 1, 2020
in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following her extended illness.
Born in Ipswich February 7, 1925, the daughter of the late Leroy F. and
Angeline (Harris) Lane, she was raised in Ipswich and lived with her
family for several years at the Crane Estate where her father served as
the keeper of the lighthouse. A 1942 graduate of Ipswich High School, she
attended secretarial school and later worked as a bookkeeper at
Metropolitan Life Insurance in Beverly, the Five Cents Savings Bank in
Salem, the Rockport National Bank and Cape Ann Business Service. She was
married to the late Paul Hopkins, formerly of Rockport for twenty-five
years and following his death in 1983 she remarried to the late Donald
Stansfield, Sr, who died in 2012.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Rockport,
and a talented quilter.
She is survived by seven stepchildren, David Hopkins and his wife Ann of
Punta Gorda FL, Donna Hughes and her husband Steven of Ipswich, Patricia
Tarbox and her husband Bill of Moultonboro NH, James Stansfield of
Ipswich, Eileen Mansell of Dover NH, Donald Stansfield, Jr of Lauderhill
FL, and Janet Champagne and her husband David of Hookset NH. She also
leaves several grand and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews, and
two lifelong friends, Virginia Visser and Phyllis Blunda. She was the
sister of the late Harold A. Lane, formerly of Ipswich, and the late
Barbara Fulle of Albany NY, and the mother-in-law of the late Richard
Mansell of Dover NH.
Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions in her name may be made to the First Congregational Church
