Virginia “Billie” (Poirier) McNally

Virginia “Billie” (Poirier) McNally, 93, died peacefully Friday, April 25, 2008, of natural causes at the Caldwell Skilled Nursing and Rehab facility in her beloved Ipswich.  Virginia was the daughter of the late Alice (Leger) and Henry Poirier of Lynn.  Born and educated in Lynn, she worked at the General Electric during WWII.  Upon her marriage in 1949 to Myles H. McNally of Arlington, Ma., Virginia was employed by the Arlington Five Cent Savings Bank working in the Life Insurance Department.  Myles and Virginia loved to entertain family and friends at their home on Jay Road in Ipswich and upon Myles’ death in 1980 Virginia moved to Lynn and resided with her dear friend the late Emily Lombard.

Virginia loved the ocean and world travel and was an avid reader.

In addition to Myles and Emily, Virginia is predeceased by brothers Winston of  NJ, Joseph Perry of Laconia, NH ; sister Bernice “Bunny” Ahern of  Maine; niece, Eileen Monroe of Connecticut and great nephew Jesse Jones.

Virginia is survived by sisters-in-law Marion Perry of Laconia, NH, Jean McNally of Franklin, MA; brother-in-law John D. Ahern of Biddeford Pool, ME.; many life-long friends including Dorella Lawrence of Peabody and Marie Babineau of Lynn; a cousin, Mrs. John “Peg” Simons of NY and three generations of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be said for Virginia at St. Mary’s Church, Common Street in Lynn on Thursday, May 8th at 9AM. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of  Ipswich.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Sea Shepherd Conversation Society, PO Box 2616, Friday Harbor, WA. 98250 or to The Lighthouse Preservation Society, 4 Middle Street, Newburyport, MA. 01950.
