Comeau, 87, of Pleasant Street, Ipswich, the wife of Gustave J.
Comeau, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Ledgewood Long Term
Care facility in Beverly following a lengthy illness.
Born in Waltham on
May 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Jessie (McComb)
Crombie. She was raised and educated in Manchester, where she was
a graduate of Story High School.
She later moved to
Ipswich, and for several years she raised her son as an
extraordinary single working mother, before marrying Mr. Comeau in
1966. They celebrated forty-seven years of marriage on November 25,
Mrs. Comeau was a
long time employee of Sylvania, and later worked for many years at
Hill’s Clothing Store in Ipswich. She was well known for her caring
heart and wonderful sense of humor, and will be dearly missed by all
who loved her. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in
Ipswich, where she developed many friendships, which she
In addition to her
husband, Mrs. Comeau is survived by her son Stephen O’Connell and
his wife Amy Sweeney of Danvers; three grandchildren, Ryan
O’Connell, Alex Parsons and Liza Parsons, all of Danvers and a
brother-in-law Clarence Dorman of Essex. She was predeceased by her
granddaughter, Caitlin Marie O’Connell, a brother, Fred Crombie of
Manchester and two sisters, Gladys Kimmince of Magnolia, and Marion
Dorman of Essex.
Her funeral Service
will be held 10 am Friday, February 28 in the Immanuel Baptist
Church in Ipswich, followed by interment in the New Highland
Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Visiting hours will be Thursday 4 to 7 pm in the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Memorial contributions in her
name may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church, 45 Central St.,
