 Thomas Emanuel Sotiridy

Thomas Emanuel Sotiridy, 70, of Liberty Street, Ipswich, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, in Salem Hospital following a lengthy, heroic battle.

He was born in Patterson, NJ on October 29, 1951 son of the late Emanuel T. Sotiridy and Mary K. (Nickas) Sotiridy.  Tom grew up in Oradell, NJ, and later graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1969.  He attended the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. before joining the United States Air Force and serving in Viet Nam. Tom was devoted to those he loved.  He never met a stranger; and was known as the “go-to” guy wherever he lived or worked.  Tom was a talented guitarist, world traveler, avid gardener, and an enthusiastic Jeep-owning member of the Mass Mudders Off-Road Club.

Following his military discharge Tom went on to own and operate Escort, an independent trucking company. After about ten years, he moved into the semi-conductor technical field where he worked for Varian Semi-Conductor/Applied Materials as a Field Service Engineer and Electrical Technician. From here he traveled the world diagnosing and solving problems involving cutting edge electronic technologies.  He retired from Varian after sixteen years to begin his third career, where he found his true calling, guiding people at various North Shore hospitals and centers through their recovery from addictions. Tom even graduated Suma Cum Laude with a degree in Addiction Counseling at the age of 68 years young!

Tom is survived by his son, Nicholas E. Sotiridy of Ipswich; three daughters Carly Futon Hurlbut and her husband Craig of Ventura, CA, Tiffany Brown of GA, Rhiannon Fulton of New Orleans, LA and two granddaughters, Shayanna M. Sotiridy of Ipswich, and Aria Brown of GA.  He is also survived by his two sisters,  Betsy Hoshaw and her husband Bob of Kokomo, IN, Diane Hunkele and her husband Les of Myrtle Beach, SC; a niece,  Kira Hunkele and two nephews, Robert Hoshaw and his wife Martha, Steven Hoshaw and his wife Lisa, and by the mother of his son and two stepdaughters, Kathleen Nolan Sotiridy of Oxnard, CA.

A Celebration of his Life was held Sunday, July 10 at the Mass Mudders Club House, 14 Kondolin Rd, Gloucester, MA 01930.   Arrangements were under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
