Maniates, 76, of High Street,
Ipswich, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Beverly Hospital
after a long illness.
Steve was born and raised in Essex. He was a master mechanic
having worked for the former Jones and
Vining of Salem and in 1984 began his tenure at Endicott
College from which he retired at the age of seventy. He was an
avid fisherman and lobsterman and for many years fished the
Essex River and Ipswich Bay.
An enthusiastic NASCAR fan, he had a love for stock car racing
that was rivaled by few. From the early 1950's and 60's with
Bentley Warren Team up until his last ISMA race August 8th at
Lee Speedway, if stock cars were racing, Steve was in the stands
or in the pits. He always had a smile and a great sense of
He is survived by four children and their spouses, Stephen of
Ipswich, Thomas of Beverly, Eddie of Santa Teresa, NM, and
Melissa of Sewell, NJ; his partner of twenty years, Patricia
Brown of Ipswich; a brother, Louis Maniates
of Essex; five
grand children and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services under the direction of Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home will be private at the convenience of the family.
