Stephen D. Brown

Stephen D. Brown, 68, husband of Joanne (Magee) Brown of Linebrook Road, Ipswich, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 in his home following his sudden illness.

Born in Beverly, February 24, 1946, son of the late Dana H. and Constance (Peabody) Brown, he was raised in Beverly and was a 1964 graduate of Beverly High School. Mr. Brown was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army having served a tour in Viet Nam. He was employed as a machinist with Barwood Manufacturing in Everett and more recently and until his long term disability, he was employed as a mechanic at Star Mercedes-Benz Service in Topsfield.

As a young man he traveled with and maintained dragster racers. He enjoyed being on the water, woodworking, his annual trips with his wife to Maine, especially Bailey Island, and his trips to “Sid’s with the guys.” He will be remembered by his friends and family as a “Jack of all trades.”

He was a member of the Bass Haven Yacht Club in Beverly and the U.S. Coast Guard Power Squadron.

In addition to his wife Joanne of thirty-one years he is survived by three sons, Derek K. Brown of Peabody, Jeffrey K. Brown and his wife Tamera of Ipswich, and Michael R. Brown of Amesbury; a sister, Janet Corning of Northwood, NH; two nephews and two nieces.

His funeral service with Army Honors will be held 11 am, Friday, September 5 in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Christine Magee Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 28, Gilmanton, NH 03237.
