Sophie Gladys (Dziadul) Rygiel

Sophie Gladys (Dziadul) Rygiel, 90, longtime resident of Washington
Street, Ipswich, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in the Pilgrim Nursing
Home in Peabody.
Born May 8, 1928 in Ipswich, she was the daughter of the late Anna and
Bronislaw Dziadul. She attended Ipswich schools, graduating from Ipswich
High School in 1946. She worked at Ipswich Shellfish from her senior year
in high school until she married Sgt. Zigmund Rygiel USMC, of Newark, N.J.
in 1953. After her marriage she moved to Beaufort, South Carolina where
her husband was stationed. She was widowed in 1956 and returned to Ipswich
to raise her only son, Michael while working at Sylvania as a secretary
until 1973. Sophie enjoyed gardening and was well known for the rose
bushes that lined her front yard along Washington Street. She also enjoyed
knitting and vacationing and was an avid reader. She had a great memory,
always entertaining family with her stories and remembering them on their
birthdays and anniversaries. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church
and the Polish Women’s Club.
She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Nancy of Peabody,
grandchildren Michael and wife Meaghan of Ipswich, and Eric and his wife
Jennifer of Georgetown, great grandson Braydon, and
many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by sisters Eleanor and Jen
and brothers Walter and Joseph.
Her funeral will be held 9 am Monday October 29 from the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by the celebration of a
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Hope Church, 1
Pineswamp Road, Ipswich. Interment will be in the New Highland Cemetery,
Ipswich. Family and friends are cordially invited.
Visiting hours will be 4 to 7 pm Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorial
contributions in her name may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children,
262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 3810.
