Shirley Jean (Crosby) O達rien, 83, of Labor-in-Vain Road, Ipswich,
wife of John D. O達rien, passed away peacefully on Friday June 26,
2015 surrounded by family.
Born
in Somerville July 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clyde
and Ruth (Pickard) Crosby. Shirley was educated in Stoneham public
schools, graduating from Stoneham High School with the Class of
1949. She continued her training as a dental hygienist at the
Forsythe Dental School in Boston. Married in 1955 the O達riens made
their home in Stoneham before their move in 1970 to their Ipswich
address. She was a dental hygienist with Dr O'Brien in Ipswich,
retiring following her twenty years of service.
Shirley was a long time member of the First Church in Ipswich. She
was also active in several local clubs including the Town and
Country Garden Club, the Sip and Sew Club and the Oldtown Country
Club in Newbury. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Ipswich Animal
Shelter and loved her time with family and friends boating in the
local waters.
In
addition to her husband of sixty years, she is survived by her
sons, Barry D. O達rien and his wife Rhea of Ayer, and Todd J.
O達rien and his wife Allison of Grafton, grandchildren Shea, Brooke
and Taryn O達rien of Ayer and Riley and Avery O達rien of Grafton.
She was the sister of the late Sandra McNutt, formerly of Newbury.
Her funeral service will
be held Wednesday July 1 at 10 am in the First Church in Ipswich on
Meetinghouse Green. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Interment will follow in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm
Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4 to 7pm in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to The Home
for Little Wanderers, Development Department, 10 Guest Street,
Boston, MA 02135, or to the Ipswich Humane Group, Box 873, Ipswich,
MA 01938.
