Shirley Ann (Chapman) Foster

Shirley
Ann (Chapman) Foster, 90, the loving wife of sixty-six years of Robert K.
Foster of Washington Street, Ipswich, passed away peacefully on December
4, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Saugus on May 17, 1930 she was one of
the six children of the late Carl E. Chapman and Annie (Cox) Chapman. She
was raised in Saugus where she
attended
public schools, graduating with the Class of 1948. Shirley was Captain of
the Sachem’s Cheerleading Squad. She went on to graduate from Bentley
University majoring in Accounting/Bookkeeping and later kept the books for
her husband’s company for many years.
Shirley
was an active member of the American Gold Wing Association (AGWA) and
loved to travel around the USA and Canada with her husband on their Honda
Gold Wing Aspencade. She was an expert cake decorator, studying with the
Wilton School while living in California in the 1960’s. She loved hockey
and was an avid Bruins fan. She also did beautiful work in ceramics, which
she usually gifted to others.
Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church
in Georgetown where for many years She taught Sunday school, sang in the
Choir and helped with numerous youth programs.
She was a wonderful mother.
In addition to her husband Robert she is
survived by two daughters, Deborah A. Helme and husband Stephen of
Westport, Sharon L. Foster-Cotton and her husband
Nathaniel
of Ipswich; a son, Richard A. Foster and his wife Donna of Rowley; eleven
grandchildren, Richard J. Foster, Sara Atwood, Jason Foster,
Niki
Foster, Christopher Helme, Allison Helme, Jonathan Helme, Stephanie Helme,
Cadence
Helme, Jazmine Foster Cotton, MacKenzie Cotton;
eleven
great-grandchildren
and
many nieces, nephews, extended family and
friends. Shirley was predeceased by three brothers, Charles Chapman, Carl
Chapman, Laurence Chapman and two sisters, Jean Detato and Margery
Sampson.
Private
arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home
of Ipswich. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in her
name to The American Diabetes Association, The American Heart Association,
or your favorite charity.
