Sally A. Soucy


Sally A. Soucy, 79, of Pond Street, Essex, wife of the late George E. Soucy, died Sunday, September 8, 2019 in the Beverly Hospital following her brief illness.

Born in Ipswich on August 22, 1940, she was the only child of the late Ernest R. and Grace F. (Standley) Lord. Sally attended the Rufus Choate School in Essex and graduated from Gloucester High School, Class of 1958. Married in 1958 the Soucys made their home and raised their family from their home of several generations on Pond Street.

For fifty years she worked as both a hostess and a waitress at the Village Restaurant in Essex and for thirty-three years she served as the Essex Town Clerk from which she retired. In retirement Sally had served as a Eucharist minister at the Beverly Hospital, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was active with the Essex Senior Center.

Sally will fondly be remembered for  the walks she enjoyed along her nature trail at Centennial Grove, her love for animals and horseback riding.

Since her marriage to George she has been a longtime and faithful communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Glen Soucy and his wife Margaret; a daughter, Carol L. Soucy; three grandchildren, Hannah, George and William Soucy all of Essex; “choice grandson” James Harmison of GA and several nephews and nieces

 Visiting hours will be Sunday September 15 from 5 to 8 pm. Her funeral will be held 9 am Monday from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Main St., Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will be in the Spring Street, Cemetery, Essex.  In Sally’s tradition Jeans and casual attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Sweet Paws Rescue, P.O. Box 752, Essex, MA 01929, American Heart Assoc., P.O. 3049, Syracuse, NY  13220-3049 or a charity of one’s choice.
