Ruth E. Palmer


Ruth E. Palmer, of Tavares, Florida, passed peacefully with her children by her side on May 10, 2020 at the age of 91.

She was born in Rockford, Illinois on June 16, 1928 and grew up in Maryville Missouri. An accomplished violinist at a young age, Ruth performed for 1200 people at the state fair when she was only twelve.  As a high school senior, she met Richard K. Palmer, whom she married four years later on August 27, 1950 at the First Methodist Church in Maryville. In addition to being a musician, Ruth was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State College and a homemaker. She was a member of the PEO sisterhood for more than fifty years. Ruth had a particular interest in RV travel, by which she and her late husband Richard visited all forty-eight continental states and Canada. 

She was predeceased in 2015 by Richard, her husband of sixty-five years. She was the loving mother of a son, Randal Palmer and his wife Christine of Apopka, FL; a daughter,  Kelly  Gritz and her husband Robert of Ipswich; grandmother of Jesse Palmer, Benjamin Gritz, Kathryn Gritz Wyle, Maxwell Palmer, Clayton Gritz, Missy Boggs and proud great grandmother of ten, Zachary, Tessa, Juniper, Robert, Calvin, Henry, Shawn, Ethan, Justin and  Brandon.

A private graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery in Ipswich. A memorial service will follow at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
