Ruth I. (Cook) Hamlyn

Ruth I. Hamlyn, 101, formerly of Coral Hill Wood Road, Essex and wife of the late Charles Hamlyn, died January 19, 2015 at the New Vista Living Center, Wellington, Florida.

Born in Everett May 25, 1913, the eldest of five siblings, she was the daughter of the late Horatio Gates and Alice (Day) Cook she was raised in Everett, a graduate of Everett High School. For more than fifty years she was employed as a sales clerk at Gorins Department Store in Everett and following her marriage and move to Essex, she was employed at Gronins, later known as Almys, in Gloucester and Beverly.

Ruth was an talented quilter, knitter and crocheter. She was a member of the Young At Heart Society at Royal Palm Beach.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Cook and his wife Mary of Venice, Florida and many nephews and nieces.

Her funeral service will be held graveside 11 am Monday, January 26, 2015 in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
