Russell E. Hodgkins

Russell E. Hodgkins, 83 of Raymond NH, passed Tuesday January 19, 2021 at Exeter Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Essex on March 2, 1937, he was the son of the late Evelyn and Douglas Hodgkins. Russell was raised in Essex and attended Essex Public schools, graduating from Gloucester High School.  He was a longtime resident of Essex and member of First Congregational Church.

Russell was well known. Throughout the years he had been employed as a general contractor and oil delivery and burner service technician for Bursaw Oil, Fox Hill Oil and the former David Comeau Heating of Ipswich.  During the 1980's he was the owner operator of the Rigger Lounge of Gloucester. He was a kind and caring gentleman who never met a stranger.

He is survived by his longtime companion Victoria St Louis of Exeter NH and her children Denise, Charles and Jacqueline, his son Russell Hodgkins, Jr of Roanoke VA, daughters Deborah Lawrence and her husband Mark of Roanoke, and Catherine Needham and her husband Anthony of Tampa, FL. He also leaves grandchildren Alissa Julien, Lacy Needham, Lexi Lawrence, Carter Lawrence and Casey Lawrence, several great-grandchildren, and stepson Steve Grimes and his wife Charlotte. He was predeceased by his sister Arlene Pizzo of Essex, and grandsons Justin and Joel.

A graveside service in the Spring Street Cemetery in Essex will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
