Russell James Griffin

 Russell James Griffin, 75, of Edgecomb, Maine, husband of Sandra R. (Hersey) Henderson,  passed away Monday February 1, 2010  surrounded by his loving family in the Miles Memorial Hospital, Damariscotta.

 Born in Gloucester on February 20, 1934, the son of the late Russell E. Griffin formerly of Gloucester and the late Hester (Henderson) Griffin formerly of Essex, he attended Gloucester High School, and served in the Army Engineering Corp. In the Army he took great pride in his education which later served him well. He was the former co-owner of Griffin and Woodman Construction Co. in Essex, where he served on the Essex Planning Board. Moving in 1974 with his family, he resided in Maine for the last thirty-six years. He  owned and operated  RJ Griffin & Sons Contractors Inc. of Edgecomb and served as a Road Commissioner.

 Russell loved the outdoors. He was an  accomplished  skiier and  enjoyed boating as a  member of the  Wiscasset Yacht Club.

 He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife Sandra of forty-nine years, he is survived by two sons, Gregory R. Griffin of Wiscasset, ME and Scott R. Griffin of Edgecomb; five grandchildren, Joshua and wife Sara Griffin of Mexico, ME, Jacob Griffin of Dresden, ME,
 Conrad and Cody Griffin of Wiscasset, and Ashley Griffin of New Castle, ME; one great-granddaughter Riley Manhart of Bath, ME; two nieces Deborah (Mckay) Kitchin of Salisbury, and Barbara (Mckay) Eldridge of Seabrook; one nephew, Mark Mckay of Essex; several great nieces and nephews
 and  three cousins Dennis, Michael and James Henderson of Essex.

 In addition to his parents he was preceded by a sister Elaine A. (Griffin) Mckay, and an aunt and uncle Madith and Everett Henderson, all of Essex.

 His funeral service will be held Thursday 2 pm graveside in  the Spring Street Cemetery in Essex. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.  In lieu of  flowers memorial donations in his name may be made to Beal House, Togus Veterans Medical Center, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME. 04330.
