Robert M. “Bob” Maloney Jr

Robert M. “Bob” Maloney Jr., 77, beloved husband of Susan E. (Regan) Maloney of Little Neck, Ipswich, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in his home.

Born in Roswell, NM on September 16, 1944 he was one of three children of the late Robert M. and Mary E. (Griswold) Maloney. Bob was raised in Reading and was a 1963 graduate of Reading Memorial High School, continuing his education at Nathaniel Hawthorne College. From 1965 to 1967 he served in the US Army as a Sergeant while stationed in Germany. He had a long and distinguished career in the aviation and air freight industry. For many years he served as president of Air General, a nationwide cargo handling company. He was a beloved leader overseeing and growing the company that his father founded in 1961. In recent years, as Chairman, his children worked alongside him to run and grow the company as he once did with his father, sister and brother.

Bob enjoyed summers at Little Neck where he could often be found golf carting around saying hello to everyone he drove by. He loved the people of Little Neck, it's community and being a part of the board of trustees to oversee it's care. Taking rides in the boat with his wife, children or friends was a favorite of his and he would always be on the lookout for another boater he could help out. He was a voracious reader. He enjoyed aviation history and would often name aircraft types from thousands of feet away on the ground. He loved dogs and even some cats. Animals were drawn to him because of his kind and gentle demeanor.

He will be remembered as a kind, patient man who could always be relied on should anyone need him. He had many wonderful friends who will dearly miss him. He was honest, trustworthy and many went to him for advice and guidance. He had a clever, subtle sense of humor. Bob and Susan enjoyed forty-two years together. They took care of each other, stood by each other in hard times and happy times. No words can describe the love they had for each other.

In addition to his wife, Susan  he is survived by two sons, Patrick J. Maloney and his wife, Julia of Atkinson, NH, James R. Maloney and his wife, Melissa of Newburyport; a daughter, Katherine E. Maloney and her wife, Kathleen of Sandown, NH; two grandchildren, Taylor E. Maloney and Callan R. Maloney both of Sandown; a brother, David Maloney of Topsfield and several nephews and nieces, Jason, Jill, Andrea, Tom, and Daniella. He was the father of the late Robert Mark Maloney III of Newburyport and Kevin G. Maloney of Rowley and brother of the late Janet R. Maloney formerly of Ipswich.

His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 15 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment with Military Honors in the Main Street Cemetery, Rowley. Family and friends are cordially welcomed to visiting hours Sunday 4 to 7 p.m. Face mask and/or vaccination required. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
