 Robert Lloyd Irvine

Robert Lloyd Irvine, 73, devoted husband of Mary Ann Irvine, passed away surrounded by family at his home on March 26, 2020 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Bob was born in Ipswich on March 12, 1947, the son of Elizabeth Bruce Irvine and Lloyd Elton Irvine. He attended Ipswich schools and joined the Army after his graduation from Ipswich High School in 1965.  A member of the Army Corps of Engineers in the Vietnam War from 1965 to1968, he returned home and became a fulltime firefighter in Ipswich.

Bob was a respected firefighter with the Ipswich Fire Department from 1975 until his retirement in 2002.  Along with working full-time at the fire department, Bob also worked as the Head of Maintenance at the Hamilton Housing Authority.  He was a member of the Ipswich VFW Post 1093. After retiring, Bob moved to Berwick, Maine where he was a proud member of The American Legion Post 79.

In addition to his wife, Bob is also survived by his three children and two grandchildren. Bob was a very proud and devoted father.  All three of his children were inspired by the selfless work of their dad. His son, Robert B. Irvine, is a firefighter in Haverhill.  His son, David G. Irvine, is a 911 Communications Officer with the Ipswich Police and Fire Department. His daughter, Marcelle E. Irvine, is a High School Vice Principal in Denver, Colorado. His grandchildren are Kyle Irvine and Braeden Irvine of Groveland.  Along with his wife, children and grandchildren, Bob is also survived by many caring relatives and friends. His wife and children were all there to support and care for him during his hard-fought battle with cancer.

A memorial service with military and firefighter honors will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. The family asks that you please consider a memorial donation to Care Dimensions Hospice in Danvers, (www.caredimensions.org) who helped take amazing care of Bob, allowing him to have his wish of dying at home surrounded by family.
