Robert A. Getty

Robert A. Getty, 79, husband of Carol A. (Rideout) Getty of Essex Street, Beverly ,died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in the Blueberry Healthcare and Rehab. Center, Beverly following his long illness.

Born in Lowell February 1, 1937, son of the late Glendon and Norma (Treffrey) Getty, He was raised in Lowell where he attended public schools. Married in 1959 the Gettys soon made their home and raised their family on Story Street in Essex. Bob was a self taught auto mechanic. For many years he was employed at the former Stevens Ford dealership in Gloucester and was later employed as a mechanic and maintenance technician at the Bass Rocks Golf Club in Rockport. Most recently and until his retirement in 2006, he was  employed at the Meadow Brook Country Club in Reading. Bob was a auto racing enthusiast. He and Andy Cody of Lowell  had built and raced many a car at the former Hudson and West Peabody Speedways. When not at the speedways and from behind the grill Bob enjoyed his family and friends at cookouts and in the pool.

In addition to his wife Carol of fifty-six years he is survived by two sons, Craig A. Getty of Beverly and Robert A. Getty Jr of Billerica; a daughter, Lois P. McKay, of Beverly; three grandchildren, Joshua R. Getty of CA, James C. McKay if Essex and Catherine E. McKay  of Beverly; a great grandchild, Aubrey J. McKay of Saugus; a brother, Donald Getty of CA and  a sister, Marlene O’Toole of FL. He was the brother of the late Albert, Glen and Leonard Getty; Mary Misuraca and Dorothy Cote.

Visiting hours be held 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, March 8, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will be private.
