Robert Kent Foster

Robert Kent Foster, 90, of
Washington Street, Ipswich, loving husband of the late Shirley A.
(Chapman) Foster for sixty-six years, passed away peacefully on January
15, 2021 with family by his side. He went to join his wife exactly six
weeks to the day she passed.
Born in Swampscott on September 4, 1930, he was one
of six children of the late Robert H. Foster and Dora L. (MacDiarmid)
Foster. He was raised in Saugus and attended Saugus High where he was a
member of the football team. With his parent’s permission he left school
at the age of seventeen to join the United States Navy.
He served for nine years
that included the years of the Korean Conflict.
Following
his honorable discharge with disability, he went on to attend Northeastern
University in California, graduating with a degree in Business Finance. He
worked in the printed circuit board industry for many years and authored
numerous procedures for manufacturing and quality control. He eventually
became the Vice President and partner in several companies of his own.
Robert was a lifelong
motorcycle enthusiast, always had one or two in the garage. Harley
Davidsons and Honda Gold Wings were two of his passions.
He was an active member of the American
Gold Wing Association and loved touring the USA and Canada with his wife.
He loved to play golf, tennis, and racquetball and was an avid fan of the
New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins. In his later years, he
cherished his weekly Saturday breakfast outings with his dear friend Bob
Weston.
Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Georgetown for many years. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Deborah A.
Helme and her husband Stephen of Westport, Sharon L. Foster-Cotton and her
husband Nathaniel of Ipswich; eleven grandchildren, Richard J. Foster,
Sara Attwood, Jason Foster, Niki Foster, Christopher Helme, Allison Helme,
Jonathan Helme, Stephanie Helme, Cadence Helme, Jazmine Foster-Cotton,
MacKenzie Cotton; eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews;
extended family and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl
Foster and Roy Foster, and three sisters, Frances Lizzo, Norma Oliver, and
Phillis Rollins.
Private Arrangements are under the direction of Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu
of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in his name to The
American Heart Association, Disabled American Veterans, or your favorite
charity.
