Richard Michael Tougas

Richard Michael Tougas, 65, of Agawam Village, Ipswich, died Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in his home following his failing health.

Born in Ipswich on March 2, 1954, Mike was one of the seven children of Patricia (Stein) Tougas of North Andover and the late Richard N. Tougas, He was raised and educated in Ipswich. Completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Washington. Following his discharge he relocated to Oklahoma where he was elected and served as mayor in the small town of Wapanucka. Following this office he went to serve as a security officer for several years for the Oregon State Prison System.  Returning to Ipswich he went on to work for the Department of Mental Health in Danvers for several years from which he retired. In retirement he often traveled to visit friends in Oklahoma.  He loved movies and collected hundreds of dvdís.

In addition to his mother, Mike is survived by a brother, John Tougas of TN; three sisters, Michele Dorr of Ipswich, Heidi Cassista of Middleton, and Georgiana Levesque of ME, and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Molly Swale formerly of Salisbury and the late Dibby Tougas formerly of Ipswich.

His funeral service with Army Honors will be held 11 am on Thursday, January 30 in the Highland Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are cordially welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
