Richard E. Ellis

 

Richard E. Ellis, 90, of the Herrick House Beverly, formerly of Ipswich and Salem, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers on August 25, 2021 with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Jean (Weagle) Ellis with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.

 

Richard was born in Salem on December 5, 1930, the son of late John Ellis of Drinagh Ireland and the late Elizabeth (Sweetnam) Ellis of Dunbeacon Ireland.   He graduated from Salem public schools, Class of 1949 and went on to serve with the United States Air Force during the Korean War, honorably discharged in 1953. Richard went on to work at Waterlac and United Shoe Beverly from which he retired after his many years of employment.  He continued his education at Bentley College graduating in 1976 with honors and a bachelors degree in accounting.

  

In addition to his wife Jean he is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth Barnes and husband Rusty of Haverhill, Donna Fossa and her husband Rick of Beverly, and Kimberly Grimes and her husband Gary Grimes of Gloucester. He was the loving grandfather of four, Stephen Barnes of Atkinson NH, Erika Barnes of Haverhill, Hannah Grimes of Gloucester and Zachary Grimes of Gloucester, and uncle of many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late John “Bill” Ellis formerly of California.  

 

His funeral service will be held Saturday, August 28 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich following a visitation from 8 am to 10 am. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem.
