Richard N. Dorman

 

Richard N. Dorman, 66, of Forest Avenue, Essex, husband of Marilyn P. (Waters) Dorman, died Tuesday, September 10, 2019 in his home following his long illness.

Born in Ipswich on December 6, 1952, he was the son of the late Clarence N. and Marion L. (Crombie) Dorman. Richard was a lifelong Essex resident. He attended Essex public schools and was a member of the Gloucester High School Class of 1971.

Following their marriage, Richard soon built their home and raised their family on the same street he grew up on. Richard and his late father Clarence worked together for many years as home builders and remodelers here on the North Shore. He enjoyed many years of camping in Maine with family and friends.

He was a longtime member of the Essex Grange #381 and currently a member of the West Boxford Grange #140.

In addition to his wife Marilyn of forty-four years, he is survived by a son, Christopher S. Dorman and his wife Penny and a grandson, Collin Dorman, all of Groveland, two brothers, James Dorman of Gloucester and John Dorman of Byfield, three nephews and two nieces. He was predeceased by his brother Stephen Dorman.

Visiting hours will be held 9 am to 11 am Saturday, September 14 with a funeral service held at 11 am in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St. Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will follow in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Northeast Arc, 1 Southside Rd., Danvers, MA 01923.
