Raymond
C.
Wilt, 76, husband of Mary V. (Giancola) Wilt of County Road and
formerly of James Road, Ipswich, died Friday, May 1, 2015 in the
Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford following
his long illness.
Born in
Peabody February 16, 1939 son of the late Arthur S. and Harriet
(Evans) Wilt he was raised in Salem and Essex where he attended
public schools, a 1957 graduate of Gloucester High School. During
the Vietnam Era, 1961 to 1964, he served in the U.S. Army. Married
in 1964 in Salem the Wilts made their home briefly in Salem, Essex,
Londonderry, NH and in Ipswich for over thirty-five years.
During
these years he was employed as an electrician, having worked many
years for Cooney Electric in Gloucester, later employed at Rule
Industries, Gloucester, from which he retired.
He spent
many leisure hours building and operating his model trains.
In
addition to his wife Mary of fifty years he is survived a son,
Christopher T. Wilt and his wife Iwona of Ipswich; a daughter,
Kathleen E. Fitzgerald and her husband Edward of Wakefield; four
grandchildren, Lucas and Alexander Wilt both of Ipswich, Katelyn and
Lauren Fitzgerald both of Wakefield; a sister, Harriet R. Wilt of SC
and a cousin, Richard MacKinnon of Salem.
His
funeral service will be held 11 am, Wednesday, May 6 in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by
interment with Army Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will
be 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, May 5. Memorial contributions in his name may
