Raymond L. Vuylsteke, Jr.



Raymond L. Vuylsteke, Jr., 75, husband of Tina E. (Millstone) Vuylsteke of Ipswich, died Saturday, September 21, 2019 following a brief illness caused by ALS.

Born in St. Louis, MO on October 23, 1943 he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Mary A. (VanderBol) Vuylsteke. Ray was raised in MO where he attended the Marihurst Seminary, graduating in 1961. He went on to serve the next sixteen years as a Marianist Catholic Brother. For several years he also taught chemistry at John Vianney Catholic High School in MO.

Soon after marrying Tina in 2006, they made their home in Ipswich. Ray is best described as quiet, with simplistic needs and very spiritual. He enjoyed the quietness of nature, the taste of ice cream, service to the community, and following his favorite team, Notre Dame.

Raymond was the former husband of Mary (Varni) Vuylsteke of Beverly with whom he raised three children. He leaves behind many family members including his sons Justin Vuylsteke and his partner Alia Mohammed of Methuen, Tyler Vuylsteke and his wife Elisabeth Drinkwater of Beverly, Luke Vuylsteke and his wife Courtney of Middleton; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Carter and Betty Jane Bopp both of MO and many loving nephews and nieces.

Visiting hours will take place from 1 to 3 pm Sunday, September 29 in the Our Lady of Hope Church, 1 Pineswamp Road, Ipswich, followed by a memorial Funeral Mass at 3 pm. All are cordially welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Raymondís name may be made to The American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or The ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
