Raymond S. Barrows, 91,
a long time resident of Hovey Street, Ipswich and husband of
Ruth (Dolan) Barrows, died Tuesday March 31, 2009, in the
Caldwell Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a
long illness.
Born in Danvers, April
13, 1917, son of the late Albert and Antoinette (Knowles)
Barrows, he was a 1932 graduate of the former Holton High School
in Danvers and the Bryant Stratton Business College in Boston
receiving his degree in business. He was a veteran of World
War II, having served in the Navy for the duration of the war.
Following his honorable discharge, he went to work J.M. Forbes
Inc of Boston where he served as Office Manager until his
retirement in 1984.
Ray was a long time and
active member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM of Ipswich, the
American Legion Post #80 in Ipswich and for many years a member
of the Ipswich Savings Bank Board of Trustees. He had many
interests which included gardening, tennis, softball, hiking,
boating and spending time with his family at his lakeside
cottage in Meredith, NH.
In addition to his
loving wife of sixty-four years he is survived by his son,
David Barrows and his wife Brenda of Tampa, FL; two daughters,
Cynthia Leshin and her husband Stephen of Sedona, AZ and
Marjorie Barrows and her husband Arthur of Phoenix, AZ;
grandchildren, Lisa Barrows of Tampa, FL; Todd Haughton, Jesse
Gaudette and Benjamin Gaudette, all of Phoenix, AZ; a brother
Albert R. Barrows of Peabody and a sister Barbara Garron of
Shapleigh, ME.
Family and friends are
respectfully welcomed to visiting hours Friday 6 to 8 pm in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. His
funeral service with internment in the Highland Cemetery,
Ipswich will be private.
