Ralph T. Doucette, Jr
Ralph T. Doucette, Jr, 92, of Pickering Street, Essex, and husband of the
late Barbara J. (Callahan) Doucette, died Sunday, January 13, 2019 in the
Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield.
Born in Ipswich on December 21, 1926, son of the
late Ralph T. and Bertha R. (Stever) Doucette, he was a lifelong Essex
resident. Ralph had served in the U.S. Navy stateside during the years of
World War II and upon his 1946 return home he went to work for a brief
period of time in the shipbuilding industry. He and his family moved to
Bothways Farm in Essex in 1950 where he was employed as the Head Gardner
and Greenhouse Manager. In 1960 he joined the Essex Police Department as
an auxiliary police officer, becoming full time officer in 1970 and
retiring in 1984 as a Sergeant.
All through his life, Ralph was an avid hunter and
fly fisherman. Many of these years he spent hunting on the properties he
maintained in both Ipswich and Essex.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol A. Doucette
of Ipswich and Karen L. Zanellis of Essex, three grandchildren, Jack E.
Doucette and his wife Meredith of AZ, Roger J. Doucette and his wife
Christina and their two children all of Haverhill, and Rosie Long and her
three children of NH, and many nephews and nieces. He was the father of
the late Jack E. Doucette formerly of Essex and was the brother of the
late Franklin Doucette formerly of Essex, Priscilla Sawyer formerly of
Gloucester and Janice Bubier formerly of Newburyport.
His funeral service with Military Honors will be held graveside 11 am
Friday, January 25 in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and
friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be 4 to 8 pm on
Thursday, January 24 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street,
Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be sent
to the Essex Police Assoc., P.O. Box 481, Essex, MA 01929.
