Philip W. Ross

Philip W. Ross, 80, husband of Mary V. (Gilmore) Ross of Woodland Street, Merrimac, died April 5, 2013 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill following an extended illness.

Born in Ipswich June 15, 1932, son of the late Arthur K. and Ina B. (Walker) Ross, he was raised in Ipswich and was a 1951 graduate of the Whipple High School in Ipswich. For four years during the Korean Conflict he proudly served with the U.S. Marines. Married 1958 in Hampton Falls, the Rossís made their home and raised their family in Ipswich. For several years he was employed as a salesman for Ipswich Shellfish, later becoming a self-employed and well known home builder. Throughout the years he built new and restored many antique homes in Ipswich and vicinity. In his spare time he enjoyed building reproduction furniture.

In addition to his wife of fifty-five years he is survived by four sons: Barry W. Ross of East Longmeadow, Paul B. Ross and his wife Bonita of Ipswich, David J. Ross and his wife Janine of Ipswich and Daniel A. Ross and his wife Jennifer of Merrimac, and a daughter, Lucinda Ross of Merrimac. Philip was also survived by eight grandchildren: Jordan Ross and Justin Ross both of East Longmeadow, Matthew Ross, Michaela Ross, Aaron Ross and Courtney Ross all of Ipswich, and Jessica Ross and Jacob Ross of Merrimac, as well as a brother, Arthur K. Ross, Jr. and his wife Jane Ross of Ipswich, a sister Priscilla Lindquist of Hampstead, NH and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Frances Norcross formerly of Rowley.

His funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, April 8, 2013 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment with Military Honors in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830.
