Philip S. Newbert

Philip S. Newbert, 69, of Ipswich died July 24, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.  

Born on November 13, 1944 in PlainfieldNJ, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Helen (Becherer) Newbert.  He grew up in Westfield, NJ, graduated from Westfield High School, Union College in Kentucky and received a Master’s degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts. He worked as a stockbroker in New York City, moving to Ipswich later in life to be closer to his family. 

He was an avid sports fan and long time season ticket holder of the New York Giants which he enjoyed attending with his daughter.  He was also an avid reader, and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Ipswich YMCA.   

He is survived by his daughter Riley (Newbert) Hastings and her husband Bill of Needham; was a proud gramps to Cameron and Leah Hastings; also leaves a brother, David Newbert and his wife Lillian of Byfield; a niece, Ashley of West Kingston, RI and a nephew, Stratton of Winchester. He was predeceased by his brother Frank (Skeets) B. Newbert Jr. formerly of NJ and a cousin, Jean Zipser formerly of NJ. 

His funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 11 at the First Presbyterian Church, 179 County Rd, Ipswich.  Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church,  179 County Road, Ipswich, MA 01938.
