Natale J.“Nat” Federico, 93, of Cable Gardens, husband of Thelma
L. (Marcaurelle) Federico, died Friday, April 29, 2016 in the
Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers following his brief
Born in Westerly, RI December 24, 1922, the son of the late
Dominic and Carrie (Turco) Federico, he was raised in Westerly,
was a 1940 graduate of Westerly High School and was a 1944
graduate of the University of Rhode Island. With a BA in
education Mr. Federico went on to teach science and math and
later and for most of his career as a physical education
teacher and coach. He coached football, baseball and basketball
at the former Whipple High School in Ipswich. He later served in
the public schools in Athol, Billerica and Hamilton-Wenham High
School from which he retired in the mid 1980’s.
Mr. Federico was an avid golfer. In addition to the sports he
coached he also enjoyed travel and camping with his family and
He was a member of the Ipswich Knights of Columbus Carrollton
Council 498, a member of the Knights of Columbus Bowling
League, The Old Newbury Golf Club and a long time communicant of
Our Lady of Hope Church.
In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years he is survived by
two daughters, Joanne F. Kelliher and her husband Paul G. of
Leeds, Kathleen J. Mahoney and her husband Paul D. of Plymouth;
ten grandchildren; a brother, Robert Federico of Vienna, VA; two
sisters, Marie Ahern and Dorothy Federico both of Westerly, RI
and many nephews and nieces.
His funeral will be held 9 am Thursday, May 5 from the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street., Ipswich followed
by the celebration of a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial in Our
Lady of Hope Church, Linebrook Rd., Ipswich. Family and friends
are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be 6 to 8 pm
Wednesday. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery. Memorial
