Muriel R. (Carter) Boutchie

Muriel R.“Meme” (Carter) Boutchie, 78, (known as Mernie to her friends
and family), former longtime resident of Ipswich and Essex, passed away
peacefully Friday morning October 24, 2008in the Kaplan Family Hospice
House, Danvers after her brief illness.
Born
February 22, 1930 in Essex, she was the daughter of the late Carl and
E.
Alberta
(Rogers) Carter. She attended Gloucester High School where she was
“Class Pin Up Girl” and graduated with the Class of 1948. She worked as
a telephone operator in Essex alongside her sister Kathleen. She went to
work for the family business, The Village Restaurant in
Essex,
for over forty years.
She
married the late Maynard Boutchie at St. Johns the Baptist Church in
Essex in 1949 and eventually settled in Ipswich where she raised her
family (her heart was always in Essex). Mernie had many interests
including trips to Foxwoods, traveling to Florida with her brother, Dana
and sister-in-law Barbara, going out to lunch with her sister Kathleen,
spending time with her friend Marilyn, bingo with her friend Marge, and
loved her family dinners the most. Her greatest joy, however, was taking
care of children whether family or friends. She touched the lives of
many children being a nanny to them all. She lived her life to the
fullest and was an inspiration to all of us. She will be sorely missed
and remembered by all those who had the pleasure of loving her.
She
is survived by two sons, Gary Boutchie and his wife Linda of Ipswich and
Glenn Boutchie Sr. and his wife Ginny of Essex; a special niece Carole
Serratore and her husband Nick of Byfield; two brothers and their wives,
Dana Carter and his wife Barbara of Essex and Dick Carter and his wife
Pat of Essex, one sister Kathleen Ricci of Essex, and a sister-in-law
Audrey Francis of Ipswich. Meme leaves six grandchildren, Glenn Boutchie
Jr., and his wife Sharon of Danvers with whom Meme resided for the past
ten years, Heather Connerty and her husband David of Bradford, Dan
Boutchie and his wife Jennifer of Georgetown, Michael Boutchie of
Ipswich, Ryan Boutchie and his wife Amy of Dennisport and Erin Boutchie
of Ipswich. Meme also leaves three great grandchildren, Julia and
Jessica Boutchie of Danvers and Camden Connerty of Bradford, several
nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Her
funeral will be held Monday October 27 at 10 am from the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by a Funeral Mass
11 am
in St. John the Baptist Church, Main Street, Essex, with interment in
the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex. Family and friends are respectfully
welcomed. Visiting hours are Sunday 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers,
remembrances in her name may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75
Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
