Milton M.
Tuff, 80, formerly of Lee Park Hamilton, died Monday, July 29, 2013
in the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Danvers following his
long illness.
Born in
Newfoundland March 24, 1933, son of the late William W. and Caroline
(Galliott) Tuff, he was raised in Newfoundland and was a graduate of
public schools and the provincial Normal College. For the next four
years he taught elementary school in Newfoundland, immigrating to
the United States in 1954 making his home in Somerville. He served
two years in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge he
returned to Boston and went to work as a manager at the former
Provident Bank and later at the former Shawmut Bank both in
Boston. Mr. Tuff was forced into an early retirement due to
injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident in 1983.
His
interests in included opera, classical music, Russian history
antiques and silversmithing.
He was a
Past Master in the Masonic Charity Lodge AF&AM in Cambridge, was a
member of St. James Episcopal Church in Cambridge and was a member
and supporter of many conservation and environmental groups.
He is
survived by a nephew, David Anthony of Franklin, NH and two special
friends, Karen Zagorski of Hamilton and Georgina Cooper of
Arlington. He was the brother of the late Frances L. Anthony
formerly of Burlington.
Private
funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter
Funeral of Ipswich.
