Mildred E. (Elliott) MacDougall, 92, of Great Hill, Topsfield,
wife of sixty years to the late Malcolm A. MacDougall, died
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House,
Danvers following her brief illness.
Born in Boston April 15, 1917, daughter of the late Carmon and
Grace (Beck) Elliott, she was raised in Quincy where she was a
member of the first graduating class of the North Quincy High
School in 1934. For several years she was employed as a
secretary. She married her childhood sweetheart in 1940, and the
MacDougalls made in their home and raised their family in
several US cities, retiring to Osterville for twenty years.
She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and an
extraordinary homemaker and craftsperson. A talented home
seamstress, she sewed and did needlepoint, painted and papered,
did home carpentry projects, upholstered, tended her home garden
and could fix almost anything around the home or garden that
needed fixing.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. MacDougall and his wife
Diane of Andover and James M. MacDougall of Ipswich; four
grandchildren, Rebecca A. Chen and her husband Dr Benjamin Chen
of Saugus, David R. MacDougall and his wife Dr Ashley MacDougall
of Medford, Bethany S. MacDougall of Boston and Lisa Grace
MacDougall of Pownal, VT, and a great grandchild, Elijah Chen of
Saugus. She was the sister of the late Carmon Elliott formerly
of Yarmouth and Margaret Hansen formerly of Wenham.
Private arrangements are under the direction of the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. Memorial contributions
in her name may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78
