Mary Elizabeth (Amerio) Sheppard

Mary Elizabeth (Amerio) Sheppard, 83, longtime resident of East Street, Ipswich  and  wife of the late Clarence W. Sheppard,  passed away  Friday, May 10, 2013 at her family home.

Born in Ipswich on September 20, 1929,  she was the daughter of the late Veto and Eva (Brown) Amerio.  Mary was a lifelong resident of Ipswich and a member of the Ipswich High School graduating class of 1947.  She  married  Clarence William Sheppard on September 16, 1950 and together they shared forty-seven  years of marriage. In her youth, Mary enjoyed dancing.  Later in life dancing still interested her as she enjoyed watching “Dancing with The Stars” on television. She was an avid reader finishing several novels a week.  She also enjoyed cooking and sitting down to a good meal with her family.  There was nothing more she liked then holidays,  family celebrations and a good cup of coffee.  She loved Ipswich and the North Shore and enjoyed taking long drives around the countryside.  Mary delighted in spending time with her cherished grandsons Jeff and Greg. In her later years she was very thankful for her daughter Debra, who was her constant companion and best friend. Debra allowed her mother to stay in her home despite her many health issues.

She was a life time member of the First Congregational Church.

Mary is survived by her two daughters Debra Marie Tatterfield and her husband William of Ipswich, Lori Ann St. Jacques and her husband Gerard of Rowley; her beloved grandsons Jeffrey William Tatterfield and Gregory William Tatterfield both of Ipswich; a sister Helen Frances Brown Germoni of Beverly and several nieces and nephews.  Mary was the sister of late Louise May Rhoades and Robert John Amerio.

A loving mother and grandmother, Mary will be deeply missed.

Her funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, May 14, 2013 graveside in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
