Mary T. (Nestor) Nelson

Mary T. (Nestor) Nelson, 83, of Skytop Road, Ipswich and wife of the late James A. Nelson, died Wednesday, April 10, 2019 in Lahey Medical Center, Burlington following her brief illness.

Born in Galway, Ireland on October 19, 1935 she was one of the nine children of the late Patrick and Margaret (Flaherty) Nestor.  Mary was raised in Galway where she graduated from public schools. At the age of eighteen years she immigrated to New York relocating to Boston. As a young woman she was employed in the catalog division of Sears Roebuck Co. in Boston. Married in 1969 in Dorchester the Nelsons  made their home in Peabody where they raised their family.  In 1988 they made their home in Ipswich.

Mary was an avid reader of fiction. She enjoyed tennis, her hours at Crane Beach, home gardening and entertaining her family and friends. She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church.

Mary is survived by her son, Lee B. Nelson of Niantic, CT; two daughters, Lynn P. Rynkowski of Woburn, Patricia A. Griffin and her husband Eric of CA; three grandchildren, Kevin Rynkowski of FL, Julie Rynkowski of Woburn, Brianna Griffin of CA; four great, grandchildren, Hayden and Avery Rynkowski both of FL and Dexter and Beverly Hood both of Woburn. She is also survived by a brother, John Connor of Ireland; five sisters, Ann Donovan of Peabody, Kathleen Darcy of Ireland, Ita Danehy of Peabody, Eileen Gildea and Noreen Mee both of Ireland; many nieces including Eileen Donovan of N. Andover and Laura Lachapelle of Fremont, NH; nephews, and dear friends. She was the sister of the late Bernadette Connor formerly of Ireland and the late Patrick Nestor formerly of England.

Her funeral will be held 9 am Thursday, April 18 from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by a 10 am service in Our Lady of Hope, Church, Pineswamp Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are cordially welcomed. Visiting hours will be 3 to 7 pm Wednesday. Interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
