Mary Elizabeth (Field) Fosdick

Mary Elizabeth
(Field) Fosdick, 83, of Tansey Lane, Ipswich died Monday April 27, 2020 in
the Masconomet Health Care Center, Topsfield following a battle with the
Covid-19 virus. She was the wife of Howard J. Fosdick.
Born April 24, 1937
in Bangor, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Elgin E. and Evelyn
(Joy) Field. After graduating from Bangor High School in 1955, she went to
Boston, where she began studying at Tufts University and graduated from
The Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists in 1957. She practiced Dental
Hygiene for twelve years.
Mrs. Fosdick was also
a classical pianist. She was the accompanist for the Winthrop School
chorus and the Whipple Jr. High School chorus.
She played the piano for Classical Ballet Classes at the Ipswich
Moving Company for five years.
Since 1982, she was the pianist for the Ascension Nursery School in
Ipswich, which was her favorite occupation.
Since 1990 she has been a photographer, capturing scenes of
Ipswich. In 1994 her
photograph, “Ice Shingles” won first prize in the Annual Ipswich Art Show.
A resident of Ipswich
since 1963, she was a twenty year member of the Ipswich League of Women
Voters from 1964 to 1984. During that time she was also a member of the
Ipswich Garden Club. She
served for thirteen years on the Ipswich Zoning Board of Appeals. She has
been a member of the Ascension Memorial Church since 1999 and a was a
Vestry Member from 2001 to 2003.
In addition to her
husband of husband of fifty-eight years, she leaves two children, a son,
Jonathan E. Fosdick and his wife, Maribel, of Malden, a daughter, Joy E.
(Fosdick) Chuba and her husband, James, of Orlando, FL, and two grandsons,
Samuel T. Fosdick and William J. Fosdick of Malden.
The family wishes to
thank staff of the Masconomet Health Care Center, Topsfield for their
professional and compassionate care.
Her funeral services
will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home of Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ascension
Memorial Church, 31 County Street, Ipswich, MA 01938.
