Martin C. Stone, 81, formerly of John Wise Avenue, Essex, died
Monday January 14, 2008 in the Caldwell Skilled Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center in Ipswich following his extended illness.
He was the husband of Gertrude (O’Brien) (Doucette) Stone.
Born in Manchester, NH July 11, 1926, he was the son of the late
George and Ella (Ferry) Stone. He served in General Patton’s
Third Army during World War II. He was employed at the former
Bomac Company in Beverly and later worked at Dexter-Hysol in
Seabrook before retiring in 1988. A jack of all trades and a
talented woodworker, he made Adirondack chairs and water beds in
his home workshop. He enjoyed playing golf and watching his
grandchildren compete in their sports.
He is survived by his children Gary Stone of CA, Marlene Hulbert
and her husband Chuck of Ipswich, Kendall Stone of Ipswich,
Ernest Doucette of Essex, Dan Doucette and his wife Jackie of
Essex, Scott Doucette and his wife Sonja of Gloucester, Barry
Doucette and his wife Donna of Gloucester, and Lee O’Neil and
her husband Owen of Hopkinton, and a sister, Ruth Noe of FL. He
is also survived by 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He
was the husband of the late Pauline (Craig) Stone who died in
1970, and was also predeceased by his sister Edith Marshall and
brothers Ernest, Walter, Robert, Everett and Edward Stone.
His funeral service will be held Thursday 2 pm at the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed
by interment with Military Honors in the Spring Street Cemetery,
Essex. Family and friends respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours
will precede the service from 12 to 2 pm. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the
Caldwell, 16 Green Street, Ipswich, MA 01938, or to the Hospice
of the North Shore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923
