Martha Ann
(Peabody) Perry, 86, longtime resident of East Street,
Topsfield and wife of the late Harvey Waitt Perry, died Monday,
January 13, 2014 in the Putnam Farm Center, Danvers.
Born in Malden
March 10, 1927 she was the daughter of the late Harold
Percival and Imogene Elizabeth (Warner) Peabody. She spent her
childhood in Lynnfield and graduated from Wakefield High School
and the Kathleen Dell Secretarial School in Brookline as a
medical secretary. She worked at the Topsfield Post Office for
over twenty years as a window clerk and supervisor. She was
later employed for more than ten years as Executive Director of
Little Brook Village in Topsfield.
Martha was an avid
reader, knitter and golfer. She was a member of the Old
Newbury Golf Club where since 1965 she served in many
capacities, including President of the Ladies League. She worked
on many committees through the years including co-chairing the
booth at the Topsfield Fair back in the 50’s. She was also a
member of the Topsfield-Boxford Community club, New Meadows
Garden Club, Friends of the Topsfield Library, The Women’s golf
Association of Mass., the United States Golf Association and was
a longtime member of the Congregational Church of Topsfield.
Martha is survived
by a son, Scott Perry and his wife Ann of Amesbury; two
daughters, Melissa Walsh and her husband Tom Walsh of Ipswich
and Suzanne Perry-Bannon and her husband Eric Bannon of Sutton;
son-in-law Scott Mayo, husband of her late daughter Cindy Mayo
formerly of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Abigail Bliss,
Nathan Perry, Molly Edwards, Sally DeWinkeleer, Seth Reidy,
Haley and Anna Bannon; four great grandchildren, Matthew and
Julia Edwards, Maisie Bliss and Sable Reidy; many much loved
nieces; nephews grandnieces and grandnephews and her friends
and the wonderful staff at Putnam Farms in Danvers where she
has resided for the last two years. She was the sister of the
late Elizabeth P. Gerry, Robert W. Peabody and Millicent
Preston.
Her funeral service
will be held 11 am Friday, January 17 in the Topsfield
Congregational Church, 9 E. Common St., Topsfield. Family and
friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Thursday 4
to 8 pm in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St.,
Ipswich. A private burial will be held in the Pine Grove
Cemetery, Topsfield. Memorial contributions in her name may be
