Mark Steven Schmorrow

Mark Steven Schmorrow, 44, of Ipswich, passed away Tuesday June 18, 2019 following a lengthy battle with Adrenomyeloneuropathy. He passed peacefully at home with his wife and children at his bedside. Mark was the loving, newlywed husband of Laurie A. Moon-Schmorrow, also of Ipswich, with whom he shared many years of love together, including nearly two years of marriage.

Born October 2, 1974 in Gloucester, he was the son of the late Michael D. Schmorrow, Sr., and Marilyn A. (Thompson) Schmorrow, also formerly of Gloucester. Mark attended Gloucester schools as a child and is a Carpentry graduate of North Shore Vocational Technical High School in Middleton. As a younger man, Mark held positions as a carpenter, machinery mechanic, truck driver, and sales at many North Shore-based companies, including The Building Center, Essex Septic, Good Harbor Filet and Synventive.

An avid sports fan, Mark was devoted to the Patriots and Bruins. A lover of woodworking, Mark built many beautiful pieces of furniture in his spare time. A self-proclaimed “amateur chef,” Mark enjoyed cooking for his family. He loved being outside, sitting by the fire, with his dogs, Hershey and the late Pablo, and sipping a Captain and Coke while enjoying time with family and friends.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Laurie Moon-Schmorrow and their three children, Joshua A. Volland, Emily M. Moon and Alexander R. Moon, all of Ipswich. Mark is also survived by his brother, Michael D. Schmorrow, Jr. and his wife Dana, of Lynn, and their two sons, Michael D. Schmorrow, III and his fiancé, Melissa Martin of Gloucester, and James Schmorrow of Lynn. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cherished friends and extended family.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 25 from 11 am to 2 pm in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.  Family and friends are cordially invited. A reception will be held at Mark’s home immediately following visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Mark’s memory to ALEX-TLC, based in London at www.alextlc.org or the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.
