Marie L. (Carlson) Mozdziez

Marie L. (Carlson) Mozdziez, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Kaplan House in Danvers on March 27, 2019. Marie, the only daughter of John F. and Nora M. (McCarthy) Carlson was born in Lynn, November 17, 1930.  She grew up in Hamilton and was a graduate of Hamilton High School. After marrying Fabian Mozdziez she settled in Ipswich where she raised her children on Turkey Shore Road, and where for many years operated a beauty parlor. Following her divorce Marie went to work for Western Electric in Andover.

Marie became a Friend of Bill’s on November 1, 1973, and later went to work at the Danvers Detox from which she finally retired in 2005. Marie helped many, many fellow sufferers and is fondly remembered by AA’s all over New England. It was rare for Marie to go to a meeting anywhere without someone coming up to ask her if she remembered them from the Detox. She always said she did!

Among Marie’s fondest memories were the trips she got to take going “Down River” with her son Freddie in his boat, and days spent at the beach.   Marie, with her cow bell, was a constant attendee at cold ice rinks all over New England as she ardently rooted for her Grandson Mark as he pursued his dreams as a hockey goalie.  She loved visiting her daughter Julie and enjoying Julie’s wonderful cooking.  She also especially looked forward to and enjoyed the regular shopping trips she took in the car with Noni and Julie.

Marie is survived by her daughters Julie Mozdziez, of Topsfield, and Norine “Noni” Mozdziez of Beverly, her grandson Mark Mozdziez of Methuen, and her best friend of forty-five years, Betty C. She was predeceased by her son Freddie. Her friends and family want to thank Kaplan House for their kind, tender and thoughtful care of Marie and attention to her friends during her final days.

Her funeral service will be held 5 pm Monday, April 1 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich following visiting hours from 3 pm am to 5 pm.  Family and friends are cordially welcomed. Iieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie’s name may be made to Kaplan House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
