Maria (Assmann) Brown, 80, of Lafayette Road, Ipswich, died
Friday, October 2, 2015 in her home following her sudden
illness.
Born April 22, 1935 in Morbach, Germany, she was the daughter of
the late Peter and Frieda Assmann. Married in Germany, she
immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1962 to join her G.I. husband
Richard A. Brown. Maria raised her family in Hamilton for twelve
years, later moving back to Ipswich. In addition to raising her
family, she was employed full time as a housekeeper. For nearly
thirty years she worked at the former Caldwell Nursing Home in
Ipswich as well as several private residences until her passing.
Maria was a longtime member of the Ipswich AMVETS post #201
Auxiliary where she was very active volunteer in their
scholarship program.
She will be remembered by many as opinionated, stubborn, and
sometimes ornery. She was, however, also one of the most giving
souls on the face of the earth and would give her last dime to
help someone in trouble.
She is survived by two sons, William Brown and his wife Heather
of Ipswich and Peter A. Brown of Rowley; a daughter, Heidi M.
Hill of Ipswich; three grandchildren, Heather Ann Meader of
Raymond, NH, Ashley Marie Hill of Gloucester and Kolten William
Brown of Rowley, and a great grandchild, Charleigh Rose Meader
of Raymond, NH.
Her funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, October 8,
graveside in the New Highland Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich.
Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours
will be held 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, October 7 in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the AMVETS
Post #201 Scholarship Fund 49 Market St., Ipswich MA 01938 .
