Maria (Assmann) Brown

Maria (Assmann) Brown, 80, of Lafayette Road, Ipswich, died Friday, October 2, 2015 in her home following her sudden illness.

Born April 22, 1935 in Morbach, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Frieda Assmann. Married in Germany, she immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1962 to join her G.I. husband  Richard A. Brown. Maria raised her family in Hamilton for twelve years, later moving back to Ipswich. In addition to raising her family, she was employed full time as a housekeeper. For nearly thirty  years she worked at the former Caldwell Nursing Home in Ipswich as well as several private residences until her passing.

Maria  was a longtime  member of the Ipswich AMVETS post #201 Auxiliary where she was very active volunteer in their scholarship program.

She will be remembered by many as opinionated, stubborn, and sometimes ornery. She was, however, also one of the most giving souls on the face of the earth and would give her last dime to help someone in trouble.

She is survived by two sons, William Brown and his wife Heather of Ipswich and Peter A. Brown of Rowley; a daughter, Heidi M. Hill of Ipswich; three grandchildren, Heather Ann Meader of Raymond, NH, Ashley Marie Hill of Gloucester and Kolten William Brown of Rowley, and a great grandchild, Charleigh Rose Meader of Raymond, NH.

Her funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, October 8, graveside in the New Highland Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be held 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, October 7 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the AMVETS Post #201 Scholarship Fund 49 Market St., Ipswich MA 01938 .
