Marcia Jane (Hatch) Fowler
Marcia Jane (Hatch) Fowler, 89, wife of the late Dean P. Fowler, died
Sunday June 24, 2018 in the Residence at Riverbend in Ipswich.
Born in Melrose December
28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Harold R. and Hazel A. (Moore)
Hatch. Marcia was raised in Melrose,
graduating from Melrose High
in 1948. Marcia went on to continue her education at Boston University and Lesley College where
she received her Bachelors and Masters in Education.
As a child, Marcia spent her summers on Great Neck, where she met her
future husband. The Fowlers were married in 1950, they lived in Woburn, Reading,
settling on Mulholland Drive Ipswich in 1970. In retirement the Fowler’s
lived in Naples,
but visited Ipswich often. Marcia
returned to Ipswich in 2007, residing at Mt.
Marcia was a primary school educator for several years in Reading.
Making her home in Ipswich, she soon went on to teach at the Shatswell School.
In 1971 she was awarded the distinguised Massachusetts Teacher of the Year
Award. Marcia later became principal
of the Burley, Shatswell, Boone Hall and the Winthrop Schools.
Marcia returned to teaching, her passion, for one year before she retired
in 1983 when she moved to London with her
husband who was sent to manage a new European office for State Street
Bank. Marcia made
home for three years, welcoming and entertaining many visitors.
Marcia is survived by two sons, Jeffrey C. Fowler and his wife Donna, and
Roger D. Fowler and his wife Anne all of Ipswich; five grandchildren;
Kelli Marshall and husband Alan, Nathan Fowler and wife Lauren all of
Ipswich, Jesse Fowler and wife Carly of Plaistow, NH, Roger D. Fowler, Jr.
and wife Jamie of Leicester, Evelyn P. Prentis of PA; seven
great-grandchildren, Vivian, Morgan and Claire Marshall of Ipswich, Roger
and Reagan Fowler of Lester, Harrison Fowler of Plaistow and Gracie Fowler
of Ipswich, a brother, Roger H. Hatch of Newbury, a sister-in-law Sophia
Fowler of Ipswich and two nephews, Christopher Hatch of MD and
Josiah D. Hatch of Marion. She was the mother of the late Mark A. Fowler
formerly of Georgetown and
sister of the late Marjorie MacKenzie formerly of Ipswich.
Private arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home of Ipswich.
