Lena (Giandomenico) Johnson, 91, formerly of Cable Gardens, Ipswich
and wife of the late Ivar W. Johnson, died Friday August 21, 2009 in
the Seaview Retreat in Rowley following her brief illness.
Born in Walpole December 30, 1917, daughter of the late Louis and
Philomena (DiBeridino) Giandomenico, she was a 1935 graduate of the
Walpole public schools. As a young woman she was employed as a
bookkeeper by the Kendall Mills of Walpole. Married in 1949, the
Johnsons made their home and raised their family in Framingham,
later moving to Sherborn, and in 2002 relocated to Cable Gardens in
Ipswich.
She
and her late husband were avid golfers and social dancers, enjoying
their many weekends at Lake Pearl in Wrentham. She was a lifelong
Red Sox fan, home flower gardener, and devoted wife, mother, and
grandmother.
Mrs. Johnson was a longtime communicant of St. Stephens Church in
Framingham where she was a member of the St .Stephens Sodality and
their bowling league, and served as a volunteer at their school
library, and was later a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in
Sherborn.
She
is survived by a son, Walter Johnson and his wife Betsy of Ipswich;
a daughter, Cynthia Ames and her husband Jon of Los Angeles, CA; two
grandchildren, Katherine and Emma Johnson both of Ipswich; a sister,
Lucy Metcalf of Walpole and many nephews and nieces. She was the
sister of the late Richard, Stephen, Daniel and Concetta
Giandomenico all formerly of Walpole.
Her
Funeral Service will be held Monday August 31, 2009 at 10 am in the
Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County Street, Ipswich followed by a
committal service at 2 pm in the St. Francis Cemetery, Walpole.
Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
