Leland R. Stevens

Leland R. Stevens, 79, husband of Suzanne J. (VanDyke) Stevens of Green Street, Ipswich, died Saturday, August 30, 2013 in the Beverly Hospital following his long illness.

Born December 31, 1934 in Smyrna Mills, ME, son of the late Leland M. and Orrie E. (Haskell) Stevens, he was raised in Maine and Danvers where he attended the Tapleyville School. Mr. Stevens served with the U.S. Army stateside during the years of the Korean War.

Married in 1957, the Stevens lived and raised their family  for the next forty-nine years at their outer High Street home. He worked as a silk screen technician have been employed over the years by Autoroll Machine in Middleton and Comdec Co. in Rowley from which he retired.

In addition to his family and work he enjoyed sailing, bird watching, his home workshop, vegetable gardening and the solitude of the area salt marshes. He and his wife were longtime and active members of the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club.

In addition to his wife of fifty-seven years he is survived by two sons, Scott W. Stevens and his wife Ericka Frederic of Chicago, IL and Leland M. Stevens and his companion Sally Longwell of Tyngsboro; a daughter, Virginia L. Stevens of Ipswich; five grandchildren, Jaime, Dominic and Joseph Baraiolo all of Ipswich, Matthew Stevens of Rochester, NY and Timothy Stevens of Tewksbury and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to a charity of one’s choice and or Professional Center for Child Development, 32 Osgood St., Andover, MA 01810.
