Laurence P. Manning, 64, of Hillside Road, Ipswich, husband of Terry
(Navarro) Manning, died peacefully Thursday December 16, 2010 in the
Beverly Hospital following his extended illness.
Born April 19, 1946 in Cambridge, son of the late Joseph J. and
Dorothy L. (Bowman) Manning, he
was raised in Somerville and as a child spent several summers in
Ipswich. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam
War. He moved to Ipswich in 1973 where he enjoyed rowing his dory on
the Ipswich River and Ipswich Bay. He was an avid sports enthusiast,
coaching the St. Catherine’s CYO Boys Basketball team of Somerville
to the New England Championship. He also completed six Boston
Marathons. He loved to golf and was a starter at Cape Ann Golf
Course in Essex and the Municipal Golf Course in Wilmington, North
Carolina.
In
addition to his wife Terry he is survived by
two brothers, Jerome Manning and his wife Terry of West Yarmouth and
Edward Manning and his wife Lorraine of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.,
two sisters; Gail DiMaggio of Norwood and Mary Jane Manning of
Beverly, his mother in law, Carolyn Navarro of Ipswich, a sister in
law, Sandra Navarro of Ipswich and several nieces and nephews
His
funeral service will be held Tuesday December 28 at 11:00 am in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by
interment with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery,
Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting
hours are Monday 5 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial
