Katherine F. Tindley, 102, formerly of Story Acres, Essex, and
wife of the late W. Dexter Tindley, passed away Thursday July
27, 2017 at Care One Essex Park in Beverly.
Born in Beverly September 29, 1914, daughter of the late John J.
and Mary (Brawders) Powers, she was raised in Beverly, a
graduate of Beverly High School Class of 1931. Married in 1936
the Tindleys made their home in Beverly and as a young woman and
for several years, worked at Hygrade Co. in Salem. In 1942 The
Tindleys bought land in Essex and opened, and for the next
twenty years, operated Tindley’s Egg Farm.
After selling the farm the Tindleys lived briefly in Florida
before returning to Essex. She and her husband went on to
receive their real estate brokerage licenses at the Lee
Institute in Boston and soon established Tindley’s Real Estate
of Essex which they owned and operated until their retirement.
In retirement the Tindleys spent six months each year in the
islands, Barbados, Grenada, and as they aged, Bonita Springs,
FL. After many years of hard work she enjoyed her time with
family, friends and home gardening.
She is survived by a son, Dexter Tindley, Jr.; two daughters,
Sheila Anderson and Barbara J. Carter and her husband Dana, all
of Essex and several nephews and nieces. She was the sister of
the late John Powers, Jr. and Margaret Minigan, both formerly
of Beverly and Anna Shepard formerly of Danvers.
Her family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to
the nurses, aides and staff at Care One Essex Park in Beverly
with a special thank you to Charlene.
A private funeral service was held Monday, July 31 in the Spring
Street Cemetery, Essex. Arrangements were under the direction of
the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
