Joseph A. Gerniglia

Joseph A. Gerniglia, 77, husband of Carrilee B.
(Pressey) Gerniglia, of Calabrese St in Salem, died Wednesday November 17,
2021 at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center following his brief illness.
Born in Lynn on July 7, 1944, he was the son of the late Joseph W. And
Angelina (Bastonelli) Gerniglia. Joe was raised in Lynn, and was a 1963
graduate of Lynn Classical High School. He went on to proudly serve his
country in the Army during the years of the Vietnam War. Joe and Carrilee
married in 1969 and soon made their home on Calabrese St., where they
raised their family. During twenty-five years of these years and until his
disability, Joe was employed as a designer in the Aircraft Turbine
Division at General Electric in Lynn. In 1992, he graduated from Salem
State College with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business.
Joe attended Wesley United Methodist Church in
Salem and was a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the
National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed spending his spare time repairing and
“tinkering” with automobiles, saltwater fishing with friends and visiting
area flea markets.
In addition to his wife Carrilee of fifty-two
years, he is survived by three daughters, Nancy A. Janvrin of Ipswich,
Jennifer L. Lamson and her husband Andrew of Ipswich, and Heather J. Colby
and her husband Christopher of Beverly; seven grandchildren, Kerrie,
Hannah, and Sarah Janvrin, all of Ipswich, Hollace and Riley Colby, both
of Beverly, Elizabeth and Rachel Lamson, both of Ipswich; brother Anthony
Gerniglia of Saugus and a sister, Nancy Gerniglia of CA., and many nieces
and nephews.
His funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, November 22, at the
Whittier- Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Family and friends
vaccinated and/or wearing a mask will be cordially invited. Interment with
Military Honors will follow on Tuesday, November 23, at 1pm, at the
Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held
Sunday November 21 from 4pm to 7pm. Memorial contributions in his name can
