John J. Waters, Sr

John J. Waters, Sr, 81, husband of Dorothy L. (Marks) Waters of Linebrook Road, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017  in his home following his long illness.

Born in Stoneham (August 26, 1935) son of the late John J. and Edith E. (Howard) Waters, he was raised in Malden, a graduate of Malden public schools. Married in 1956 the Waters made their home and started their family in Malden relocating  to his Linebrook Road home in 1966. For eighteen years  he was employed as a truck driver with Teamsters Local 25. Later in life, and for several years, with his own tractor, he worked as an independent trucker. In retirement he drove a school bus  for Salter Transportation.

John enjoyed his family and friends both boating on the North Shore and camping at Baxter Lake, NH. He was known by his many loving grandchildren as “Grumpy.”

In addition to his wife Dorothy of sixty-one years he is survived by five daughters, Sharon Waters and her partner Gerome Curcuru of Gloucester, Barbara Vinciguerra and her husband Tony of Byfield, Diane Waters and her partner Paul Cogger of Somersworth, NH, Cheryl Langlais and her husband Brian of Ipswich, and Donna Knudtson and her husband Lee of Kingston, NH; two sons, John J. Waters, Jr. and his wife Debra of Rowley, and Kenneth Waters of Ipswich; many grandchildren; great grandchildren and his beloved canine companion, “Maggie.” A special thank you to his caring nurse, Tara.

His funeral service will be held 10 am Monday, June 5, 2017 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Sunday 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to: VNA of Middlesex-East, Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
